I have served Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools for 34 years first as a classroom teacher in third
and fifth grades at Sacred Heart School and then as a middle school social studies teacher at
Mater Dei before being named as principal. I have served as principal at Mater Dei since 2008.
The teachers and staff at Mater Dei are some the most dedicated you will find. Their love for
BHCS can be witnessed in their devotion to their students.

As our student population becomes more and more diverse, the teachers at Mater Dei are
dedicated to reach each student where they are and encourage them to grow academically,
socially, and spiritually. Teachers take the needed time and find the resources to tailor the
academics to the needs of each student. Our students continue to achieve beyond local, state
and national averages on standardized tests.

Faith Formation
At Mater Dei School our students are able to put their faith into action throughout the year and
throughout the day. We begin and end each day in prayer. We celebrate Mass weekly and
students are encouraged to participate in planning Masses as well as taking control of the
ministries that are available such as singing, reading and serving at Mass. Students take an
active role in the liturgical celebrations throughout the year such as Advent and Lent. Students
take part in and help plan several service projects throughout the school year. They are not
hesitant to bring service ideas to administration and then work at implementing those service
opportunities, ever aware of the needs of the world around them as well as the world outside of
their community.

At the middle school, students are given the opportunity to participate in chess club, Math Bee,
Quiz Bowl, LIFE Team and other activities throughout the school year. After school study hall is
offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with staff present to offer help from 2:45-3:30.
Our PK-8 th grade Catholic school consists of two centers: Mater Dei-I.C. Center and Mater Dei-
Nativity Center. The I.C. Center is made up of PK-4 th grade while the Nativity Center has 5 th -8 th
grade. Each center can provide an education and atmosphere geared towards the age of the
children present.
